Working with a sprained ankle
Jul. 20th, 2012 05:34 pmOne thing they never tell you about pain is just how exhausting it is.
I went back to work today, after spraining my ankle really badly on Wednesday, and boy did I regret it. I only work part-time, but I was exhausted by the end of it. I was also snapping at people and bursting into tears for no reason (I didn't say I was a dignified or mature person...) Even now I still feel tired and sick.
I've never understood how people in books can just "ignore pain." I guess it's because you can't have your hero writhing in agony when he should be chasing the villain or the monster, but in real life pain is really hard to ignore. That's its biological purpose: it's supposed to draw your attention to those parts of your body that require attention. Maybe there should be more books with people lying in the corner moaning...
Or maybe not.
I'll write later, when I'm feeling a bit more human.
